Noisewire Interview with Her Noise Is Violence
Her Noise Is Violence is the solo electronic project of Raye; a DJ and producer originally from Pennsylvania but now based in Columbia, South Carolina. She is known primarily as a techno producer, with a catalog that spans hard techno, dark electro, acid, and EBM across labels including Detriti Records, Brutal Resonance Records, and hard rave figure D. Carbone's Carbone Records.
But there is more to the project than the dancefloor. Refusing to be pinned to a single genre, Raye has also been producing harsh noise, with two recent releases in that vein, Transmissions and Pain Shopping. Both albums employ layers of dissonant and abrasive textures created from noise loops and found sound recordings to convey feelings of panic, outrage, disgust and anger. Both albums are a sonic assault on your senses; unparalleled in intensity, even compared to some of the bigger names in noise music today.
In this video, Chris sat down with Raye to discuss her latest harsh noise releases Transmissions and Pain Shopping. They also discussed what it's like working in two distinctly different genres, what her studio looks like, her perspectives as a DJ, and what its like being a female producer today.
